... It is critical that geomatics surveyors do aspire to lead teams. In doing so we can spread the geomatic knowledge and experience we have to a more senior level; otherwise we just get seen as "techie people who can largely be ignored" -- believe me, I've been there. We need to learn to speak the language of senior business and to infect it with our professional experties ...
...we sometimes lack the skill to communicate with non-geomaticians. OK, so we know we're right (!) but we need to learn how to communicate with those outside our profession in a way that doesn't switch them off and make them think that all geomaticians are "techie geeks who are obsessed by minute detail and can't see the big pitcure" ...
